Draft Analysis

For this analysis, I've used Yahoo's ranking simply because it's the easiest to identify player with team.  I may update this for any preseason trades to come.

Snake Draft Comp
Here I've assumed an 11 team draft, and assigned numbers (round.overall rank) for the player that ended up on each team to assess how managers strategically allocated "draft picks."  I've included the Kiah-Brad trade, and if you look closely you might find some trouble with the numbering (it was easiest to assume 11 players per round throughout, but with Johnson added in too).  I've gone through seven rounds because in those rounds you could select an entire starting lineup of position players, and I included the total number of players selected with a 7th round or better comp.

Jerod (1 second, 3 thirds, 1 fifth, 3 sixths) 7
(2.20) T. Hilton, (3.27) D. Hopkins, (3.29) C. McCaffrey, (5.46) S. Ware, (6.57) E. Lacy, (6.61) J. Landry, (6.65) L. Blount

Roster Construction
Here is a look at position strengths, position weaknesses, and position depth.  The numbers are Yahoo's positional rankings: top 12 QBs and TEs, and top 30 RBs and WRs (assuming half the league starts RB at flex, half the league starts WR).  Thus the more numbers a team has the better, and the lower numbers each team has the better.  Here I've also included the Kiah-Brad trade.

Rule Changes and Notes

I'm putting these on this space before putting them into the rulebook, to give Hazelweirdos a chance to review, correct, and clarify.  For example, in the amendment to the $300 player rule, nobody told me whether the veto power existed only through the preseason, or continued into the season.

I'll also note that I'm not sure how Yahoo! is applying our regular season or preseason free agency rules.  Somebody will be able to ensure the waiver system is what we want for the regular season in time.  It is possible that we may apply the preseason free agency rules "manually" in a method presented at the draft and to be reviewed later.

We all now have access to the Commissioner Tools on the Yahoo! page (it's a real priesthood of all believers situation now!).

Preseason Free Agency
Preseason Free Agency begins after all preseason games have ended, during the week before the season.  Essentially, the same system we use for the regular season begins the week before the season.  Managers will use their $200 FAAB to make bids on players before Tuesday at midnight, and Wednesday morning players will be assigned to teams.  After the waiver period, there is a "free for all" period when managers may pick up any available players up to the start of that player's team's game for that week.

Trading Amendment
No trades are allowed before or during the draft, and no trade discussions are allowed before or during the draft.

Amendment to the $300 player rule
When a manager is absent from the draft and utilizes the $300 player rule, any trading away of that $300 player is subject to league approval.  If a majority of the league objects to the trade in a timely manner, the trade will be vetoed.

(I would like to add a statement like this: "This rule is meant only to be used if a trade is deemed egregious for league competitiveness."  I believe it clarifies the spirit of the rule, which is sometimes helpful to include in the rulebook.)

Free Agency Proposal

Image result for james madison
"This might rival Federalist #10."

1. Maintain $200 fixed Free Agency Bidding Budget (2016 rule)
2. Return to weekly system of submitting waiver claims by Tuesday night, waivers assigned Wednesday morning, following by a free-for-all period until the start of each player's game (the pre-2016 system)

3. Preseason Options (some may be limited by Yahoo)
a). ELIMINATE PRESEASON FREE AGENCY: waivers and free agency begin after Week One.
b). Return to One Preseason Free Agent pick per manager, with picks as tradeable commodities (pre-2016 system).
c). Begin waivers immediately (claims by Tuesday night, waivers assigned Wednesday morning, free-for-all period after as allowed by Yahoo!).
d). Begin waivers immediately (claims by Tuesday night, waivers assigned Wednesday morning), but FORBID any picks during free-for-all period.
e). Free for all.  After draft, anybody can make any free agency moves at any time (as allowed by Yahoo!), up to the start of the first Week One game).
f, Free agency, with waiver period followed by free-for-all, begins after Week 3 of preseason.
